AmeriCares provides new syringes for Malamulo Hospital
A one year old little girl was admitted to the Nutritional Rehabilitation Unit at Malamulo Hospital for malnutrition and while there she was diagnosed with Malaria. Because of the severity and strain of malaria she was prescribed Quinine IM. Because of the recent donation from AmeriCares, Malamulo Hospital, Malawi, is fully stocked with the right size of syringe for this medicine.
Sam Ndomondo, charge nurse on the pediatric ward, was asked about the value of these syringes to the care of the little ones: “They are especially important for children because they come in vomiting or will not swallow the medicine orally. With these syringes we are able to administer the drugs that are needed quickly and easily.” Some of the medicines that are frequently given are Quinine, Ampicillan, Cholorphenical, Promethezine, and Glucose 25%. There is an injection done on Peds at least every hour, according to Mr. Ndomondo.
Because of this generous donation from AmeriCares, Malamulo is able to continue to provide the needed medication through injections and use of the syringes. This comes at a time when the hospital faces many financial challenges and having the ready resources of this important medical supply is a tremendous help financially. “We are very grateful to AmeriCares for donating the 3ml size of syringe as this size is most often used in Peds," adds Mr. Ndomondo. "Thank you very much!”
