Today, the Adventist church owns and operates approximately 70 hospitals and hundreds of health clinics in the developing world. Most of these have been deteriorating significantly over the past two decades, due to decreased external budget support, troubled local economies, political unrest, inadequate staffing, and insufficient governance. Without major external involvement, many of these institutions will lose their effectiveness and eventually close. For nearly 10 years, AHI has been mobilizing health care experience, expertise, personnel and other resources to promote and improve quality global health and health care services through consultation, management, and technical assistance. With the volunteer support of employees of our corporate members, we are able to maximize the effectiveness of every dollar we receive. AHI believes that every health care facility must be firmly rooted in its community with concern for all aspects of development, and will continue to make every dollar count in pursuing policies and programs that accomplish this aim.
