Countries 21
Hospitals 26
Clinics 67

Providing quality and compassionate health care has become a trademark of the Adventist Church around the world. Our network of 175 hospitals and more than 300 clinics has a reputation for both caring staff and appropriate technology.

Unfortunately, the rapidly increasing technology and accelerating costs to maintain these facilities has jeopardized the quality of our services in many of our institutions. Most of our 70 hospitals in the Majority World (developing countries) now suffer from inadequate staff, broken equipment, deteriorating buildings, and limited management techniques.

It was this concern that led to the founding of Adventist Health International more than 10 years ago. Based at Loma Linda University, AHI has built on the strengths of the Adventist health systems in the United States to partner with our health care systems in other countries. There are currently 26 hospitals and 67 clinics in 16 different countries that make up the AHI network of institutions. Joining AHI is a voluntary step taken by each institution, with the support of their Union and Division committees.

Because of the intensity of assisting each new institution, AHI can only add one to two new hospitals a year. Our experience has shown that it takes around five years to gradually strengthen the governance and management of each institution, obtain adequate medical equipment, repair buildings, and once again regain its reputation of the past.

God has clearly blessed this endeavor. Individuals and organizations donated more than US$1 million to AHI last year to assist with these initiatives. A growing number of churches are once again experiencing the blessing of connecting directly with missions. Many volunteers are spending time assisting in various countries. More than 60 medical students and residents at Loma Linda University have now signed up to work abroad, after their training, to become part of this movement.Praise God with us for what He has done. Truly health care is an important part of our Adventist heritage and cannot be neglected. Once again, we can partner with God in sharing His compassion and care for suffering patients around the world.
